Makeup Lesson # 8: Time to Prep!
You have now seen the bigger picture. It’s now time to focus on the little things – which matter just as well.
We have previously discussed the normal makeup routine. Take note that this routine is mostly for women on the go. If you’ve got time, or if you’re going to be applying makeup prior to a big event, such as, say, a date or company dinner, there are some ways to make the application even more improved and luxurious.
Sleep well
There will be less need to slather on a lot of concealer if you are well rested. The skin will be naturally glowing, and there won’t be any dark circles under your eyes to hide. As a quick fix, drink some nice, calming tea, and set the teabags over your eyes for 30 minutes. This will extract unnecessary moisture from that area.
Wash your face well
After you take a nice, long bath, give special attention to your face by washing it with warm water and some gentle soap, then patting it dry. Apply your usual toner and moisturizer, massage gently then wipe off. No need for the moisturizer if you’ve got oily skin, but you can also massage the face to allow the skin to “breathe” through good circulation. Gently slough off dead skin from the lips as well by using an old toothbrush.
Prepping
Pull your hair up in a knot and use a head or sweatband before you apply makeup. You won’t really need the unnecessary bother of brushing your hair out of the way whenever it gets into your face. Tie a makeup bib around your neck and shoulder area so that your makeup application won’t be messy at all, and so that you can move about freely.
Lay out the cosmetics and tools you will use, better if it’s according to the order in which you will use them. It will be annoying to fumble about and spend time looking everywhere just for that very small lip brush! By this time, your dresser/boudoir should already be equipped with a white, natural light, not the usual yellowish ones. This will ensure that you won’t have an entirely different shade once you step out of the house. You’ll also be able to see if you’re putting on too much product, so, no surprises!
Aside from the eyebrows, it also does not look very good for the lips to look chapped and dry, especially with lip products already on it. Avoid this by prepping the lips way before you put on any makeup products. Since you’ve already sloughed off the dead skin from your lips, just apply petroleum jelly and leave it on. Wipe this layer off only before you apply the lip products later on, and your lips will feel a lot tauter and fresher.
