Achieve your Goals: Reaching For the Stars
All people have goals. A student’s goal may be to pass an examination. A teen-ager’s goal may be to go out on a date with the most beautiful girl in school. A businessman may desire financial success in his business while a poor man may only wish to eat even a single meal a day.
Goals may come in different forms. They may be as trivial as finishing a project or as magnanimous as reaching for the stars. Yet one thing is sure --- all people have goals.
Unfortunately, for some reason, not everyone can achieve his goals. And oftentimes, this makes him feel frustrated and dejected. But achieving goals is always a distinct possibility. The first important thing to keep in mind is to set realistic goals in the first place. Have a clear definition of your goals. What is it that you really want? Be specific of your objectives.
Next, outline a specific plan for your goals. This will serve as your guide so you do not stray away from the right path. Expect obstacles along the way. No path is ever perfect. And this holds true especially to any path leading to success. So have an alternative plan. If plan A does not work, move on to plan B. But do not be left without a choice.
If you need to break your goals down so that they become easier to achieve, do so. Long-term goals may be difficult to achieve, and often enough you may lose interest. In this case, you may need to break your goals down to the smallest detail. Goals that are broken down can be easier and can be more realistically achieved. Treat your goals one step at a time.
Next, have a time frame for it. This will provide you with enough motivation to keep moving towards the achievement of your goals. This will challenge you to a great extent and make you come up with creative ways to achieve them. They will keep you on your feet most of the time so there will be no chance of you procrastinating.
As goals may not be always easy to achieve, it is important for one to persevere. Have the commitment to stick to your goal and do not let anything deter you from doing so. The reward is always greater for those who are able to withstand the test of time and social pressure.
Remember, too, that even if you have set some goals for yourself, you cannot do things on your own. As is often the case, you will need the help of others. Do not be afraid to ask for help. Involve them in planning, as well as in decision-making. They can help to motivate you to make your dreams come true.
Finally, reward yourself with simple things when you have accomplished something in the course of fulfilling your major dream. Buy yourself a nice pair of shoes, for instance. Or go out to dinner at your favourite restaurant. Whatever you do, celebrate every little accomplishment you have. You deserve it.
