Making the Most of Your Time
Life has a lot in store for every person. The problem is there is only a limited amount of time every person can get in his/her life. To get the most out of life, one must learn to prioritize his/her activities and not waste time.
In today’s world, people are always on the go. Everyone has a hectic schedule ahead of them. If you are one of these people constantly on the go, learn techniques to make the most of your time.
To make the most of your time, learn how to plan. Planning skills are not easily developed or acquired. You have to undergo a certain degree of experience in success and failure.
To learn how to plan effectively, you have to learn first about yourself. You have to learn your pacing on doing things. Know how fast you can work. This way, you will not set plans that are impossible to accomplish given the limited time per work. You should also know what the factors in improving your work are. These factors may include music, silence, food, or even the company of other persons. Find out whatever drives you to do your work in the most efficient and time-saving way.
Set objectives for your day. Your objectives must be specific. They should not cover one agenda at a time. The more you cram yourself on all agendas at once, the slower you will finish them. Doing many things at once is called multitasking. Multitasking is not recommended since it deteriorates the quality of your overall work and consequently uses up more time than doing work one at a time. Avoid multitasking at all costs. It is better that you focus on one work and finish it before moving to the next. You will be surprised at how fast you are accomplishing your tasks. Your objectives should also be measurable and time-bounded. You should limit a certain task to the minimum possible time needed to get the job done. For example, it is outrageous to provide two hours just for making a single page report. Your objectives should also be attainable and realistic. This means that you have to consider the amount of time needed to comfortably get the job done. In other words, do not overly restrict the allotted time for a task. An example would be giving only ten minutes to write a ten-page report.
Learn ways to improve our planning skills. Be like a general who is adept at accurately planning military operations to the very minute detail. But even if you can’t plan strategically, you can always opt to hire a personal secretary. You personal secretary can set schedules and remind you of appointments and things to do.
Planning is a skill that can be used domestically or professionally. You can use it at home in your day to day activities, or you can use it at work for your hectic business schedule. It is a very important skill to master to make the most of your time.
