Self-acceptance: The First Step to Success
One evident characteristic of successful people is their high level of self-confidence. In fact, this is what separates successful people from mere ordinary people. These people basically know what they want. They believe they can do things and make a difference, and really, they can. They are not afraid to take risks, fully confident that if there is a will, there must be a way.
But how can one achieve self-confidence? Why is it that there are people brimming with confidence while there are those who just do not have it? The first step to achieving self-confidence begins with accepting who you are, and this, in turn, is the main key towards success.
Get a hold of a mirror and take a good look at yourself. You have nice eyes and well-defined features. Even your nose looks acceptable. You are beautiful, but you know that there are many others who are more beautiful than you. Your lashes are not long enough, your teeth need orthodontic braces and your lips are not at all like those of a lipstick model. You are slightly on the heavier side and your figure is not very flattering. It may be true that you are far from being perfect. And you know it, too. Still, that does not make you curl up in bed. On the contrary, you come to accept who you are and what you are and this gives you more confidence to get ahead, to succeed and make a difference in life.
On the other hand, there are people who tend to look down on themselves. They have very low self-esteem, often wishing they were this rather than that. For obvious reasons, these people have not come to terms with their own selves. They have not come to accept the realities of life. They have not learned to appreciate their very existence. People with this kind of behavior will always tend to look at things in a negative light. They cannot find joy nor can they ever find hope and people who are hopelessly hopeless end up as failures. They cannot move on and what’s worse is that they cannot succeed.
If you want to have a go at life and succeed, learn to accept yourself first. Focus on your positive aspects. Rely on your strengths. You may not be good in math, but you have excellent communication skills. You may struggle in chemistry, but you can write a novel in just a couple of days. You may not sing very well, but you can play the piano. You may not be a good athlete, but you can dance fairly well. Concentrate on things like these. Learn to accept the things you can do. In the process of learning to accept yourself, make no room for negative thoughts. Always think in the positive. A positive mind always makes one feel more confident, more sure of himself - and you only become confident when you learn to accept yourself.
With confidence, you can do practically anything you desire without any fear, without any hesitations. And most likely, you will obtain success.
