Ancient Sightseeings and More in Egypt
I have always been fascinated by the fact the one of the seven ancient wonders of the word was still existent. The Pyramids of Giza has always been a motivation for me to find means and ways to get myself to Egypt.
True enough, after a few years, I finally set my feet on the Cairo Airport. I took my reserved accommodations at Cairo Marriot. It was hotel service that brought me to a guide whom I arranged to meet the next day as soon as I've adjusted to the severely different atmosphere and time zone of the country.
The next day was a time to go around Cairo. From the initial orientation of my guide, I learned that the Cairo was the nearest ares to almost every tourism spots in the whole of Egypt. The city is actually named the Triumphant City.
We took the first tour to the Islamic side of the city. It is easily noticeable that the people there differ greatly from the usual expectations towards Muslim areas. The genera sensibility of the architecture, etc. of the place show signs of the retention of many medieval ways. Indeed, the guide told me that the area was as close to the former Egyptian ways considering the fact that Ancient Egypt did have the longest continuing civilization.
An altogether different atmosphere greeted as when we arrived at the Coptic area of Cairo. The difference is readily noticeable. For one, instead of mosques, churches are everywhere. Second, the place isn't exactly Egyptian as it shows architecture associated to the Romans. True enough, I was educated by the guide that the area was once inhabited by the Babylonians and the Romans. Thus, we were able to visit one of the oldest Church in the world.
After the night's rest that proceeded a taste of Egyptian food that is characterized by heavy use of vegetables and legumes, we were ready to head to the biggest pyramids around the country. It was a very long, sandy and humid road to Giza. There, I was able to behold the pyramid triad.
The next two days after the long and tiring trip to the Great Pyramids, I took a pre-booked cruise in the Nile River .The cruise was extremely comfortable. There were high end cabins, spacious restaurants and on board pools. The trip showed much of what Egypt really is with the sights by the riverbank.
After the cruise, it was time for a trip around the modern areas in Egypt. true enough, one wouldn't exactly think that the place was entirely foreign since it has all of the modern and western amenities. Yet, Egyptian products and souvenirs were still very much available so, it was really easy to bring back a part of the country back home.
Egypt is exactly the one place that mixes the ancient and the modern.
What's more is that it houses ancient culture and history very carefully. Perhaps on the next visit, I'll be able to explore the laces beyond the regular tour packages.
