Sydney, Australia: One of the World’s most Expensive Cities

Kangaroos, cuddly koalas, deserts, the beach - these are some of the things that come into mind when we speak of Australia. Little do we know that Australia offers more than those and such is the case with one of Australia’s major cities that is, Sydney.

Sydney, as we know it, is one of Australia’s biggest and major cities with Melbourne coming in second and Brisbane in third. Sydney offers a lot of entertainment and shopping attractions for tourists who flock it from all over the world. A testament to that are the usual jam-packed entertainment events such as concerts and others in Sydney’s Opera House.

The Sydney Opera House is where top artists, local and foreign, such as AC/DC among others, can be seen in live sets. Because of its unique architectural design, the Sydney Opera House isn’t just for entertainment seekers but for those who want to sightsee as well.

Although dubbed as one of the world’s most expensive cities, because it is, Sydney is home to many retail stores as well. Among many destinations for shopping enthusiasts include the Victoria Building on George Street, the pedestrian mall found on Pitt Street, and the quiet but luxurious shopping strip in the northern end of Casltereagh Street where high class, international boutiques like Versace, Channel, and Gucci are found.

Aside from shopping in shopping centers and shopping districts or strips around the huge, major Australian city, there are also other places to be such as the Royal Botanic Gardens which is just a few minutes of walk from the Sydney Opera House. The Royal Botanic Gardens near the Sydney Opera House is a great place to get away from the hustle and bustle of the city. The place is a quiet and breathtaking escape from the busy city that offers sights of rich greens and different shades and hues of colors from the flowers and plants that could be found there as you take a leisurely and relaxing walk around. What is more fun about the Royal Botanical Gardens of Sydney is that you get to go in without any fee!

For those who enjoy the wildlife, there is the Taronga Zoo situated strategically along the Sydney Harbour that offers a scenic view of the Sydney Cove, the Harbour Bridge, and the Sydney Opera House. The Taronga Zoo is home to many species of animals found in Australia’s wildlife. The place is designed in such a way that visitors feel that they are walking through rain forests and such that it doesn’t feel as if it was made by man at all. While in the zoo, one of the must-see sectors is the new Great Southern Ocean Exhibit which houses Australian sea lions, Australian fur seals, New Zealand fur seals, Californian sea lions, leopard seals, penguins, and pelicans among others.

If you care to look around the city, you might find more things to see and take part of to complete your vacation!
